MELANCHOLY, Marta Luma, 2024
Bronze
55 x 12 x 5 cm
Edition: 5
Melancholy, as the Artist confesses, appeared in a dream, like a silent phantom with a slender, elongated shape. Her artistic vision is thus an attempt to immortalise the ephemeral state of melancholy, to give it subjectivity.
Melancholy is a changing mood, whose fluctuating nature makes up a varied emotional collage. The artist shows this complexity by combining the softness of the form with the sharp ends of the individual elements. Its organic, flowing shapes seem to float in space, evoking the ethereality and transience of the titular melancholy.
The surface of the sculpture, with a semi-matte finish in a natural shade of bronze, has been developed with gentle mindfulness, as if a different nuance of complex feeling were hidden in each of its slightly shiny pieces.
