About
Art is my breath; embroidery, a handbag—a sense, and sculpture— the found language of my soul.
For me, it is the result of moments of externalising the intangible: feelings, emotions, the soul. Moments of purity of experience and transformation into expression without the interference of one's fears and the influence of one's surroundings.
A state that is the result of having the courage and faith to break through one's own layers, interferences and the weight of judgements. A state whose rejection leads to a sense of freedom. It is following one's own pure truth and one's own soul.
Marta Luma: an interdisciplinary artist, inviting the audience to the world of inner life, shaping our individual identity, to a place where art becomes a tool to help discover and express the unseen. The central theme of her work remains the attempt to capture the feelings, experiences, spirit and dignity of the human being, together with the inexhaustible range of human sensitivity and the mystery of existence, which materialises through various forms of artistic expression. With the subtlety of organic shapes, using the ducts of lines stemming from the plant world and the softness of abstract forms, she speaks of intimate moments of introspection in quiet, calm and harmony. Marta Luma’s art’s notable points are an emphasis on the contrast between organic softness and sharp geometry, the variety of materials used in the creative process.
Her individual, lyrical creative language finds expression in traditionally defined sculpture and her own techniques, including embroidered art on leather, hidden inside bags, and she also uses metal, bronze, clay or wax.
Born in Warsaw in 1985, Marta Luma is a graduate of the Faculty of Psychology in Warsaw; she completed postgraduate studies in fashion and accessories design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. She developed her knowledge of handicrafts, embroidery techniques and bag sewing over seven years of learning and working in Italy alongside numerous teams made up of experienced craftsmen and excellent professionals. In addition, the artist is developing under individual tuition with sculptor Leszek Michalski.
She works and lives between France, Poland and Italy.
